Stephen Fry rips Catholic Church a New One

It's about time Ing's old lady got back in the act, blog wise, so here I am ;)  This is a video from (I believe) a '09 Intelligence Squared debate (wiki) where Fry blasts "The Church" for its sins, in his truly awesome manner.  He's always a pleasure to listen to, but when he's saying something that pretty much echoes all my problems with the institution of the Catholic Church, its dogmas, and its behavior - that's just fine livin' there!

I submit that all public discourse has to happen like this.  All of it.  Everywhere.  We will all wear double breasted suits (ok, fine, single if your frame permits), spiffy ties, and hone our speeches until they are firey-yet-polite.  This should discount most of my country's pundits and noiseboxes, but oh well!

Meat Incubatorist aka Rep Marhal says Palin had an Abortion

Wow, this blog is pretty political...only thing to do is polarize it more!  I won't be happy until I'm getting hate mail damn it!

Yup, a law in Utah now makes it possible for women to be investigated upon having a miscarriage.  Any attempt to abort outside of medical is illegal and the women themselves are to blame.  Since the potential things that could cause miscarriage include booze, coffee, horseback riding, driving on bumpy roads, handling cat poop, this just opens a Pandora's box (or should that be Pandora's womb?) of potential problems.  Imagine, woman has a miscarriage...huge fucking disappointment and basically DEATH OF HER SOUL...and the police now (if the law is followed correctly and not selectively enforced) now HAVE to investigate it.  They'll have to see, did she drink coffee a lot, what did she do to cause this miscarriage?  Yes, a grieving ex-mother will now have to be cross examined and drilled to see "How is it YOUR fault".  Beautiful message.

What about the rights of that little girl!?

For more fun... The sentence is a potential life in prison.  I'm fairly sure a good deal of rapists get away with less.  So this means if a woman is raped, and throws herself down a flight of stairs in depression, miscarrying the fetus, SHE can face a greater sentence than her rapist...

yay?

Seems to me that this is more of a...miscarrage of justice

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

It's worth noting that Marshall has a history of saying offensive things - or being "misinterpreted."
He said this about abortion in the case of rape: "[T]he woman becomes a sin-bearer of the crime, because the right of a child predominates over the embarrassment of the woman."
And he said this about contraception: "[W]e have no business passing this garbage out and making these co-eds chemical Love Canals for these frat house playboys in Virginia."
He claims he was "misinterpreted" or "misquoted"...personally I think was "miscarried" .  how can you read anything else in that quotes other than "Women are meat incubators...".  He supports forced reproductive slavery across the board!  Woman may in fact be raped if you want them to carry your spawn; a little embarrassment for them is no reason not to propagate your genes.  Oh imagine a romcom about this!?  "Made to Love You" we'd call it, and it'd be a woman living with a douche who raped her at a frat party and she's trying to make it work so the future child will have a daddy!  Hilarious hyjinks ensue!

Women can't abort because...you know they're property and God will smite them with horrible deformed or stupid babies.   Following this logic we know two things

A) Sarah Palin had an abortion at least once to trigger Trig...probably why she is so justly anti-abortion for her daughter, doesn't want her saddled with a little ree-ree like she was
B) Sarah Palin's mother had had an abortion.

Sorry Sarah, but "Retarded" is the only way to describe this mindset.

I'd like to say this guy is a nut in his own party...but I can't.  The right is getting more and more extreme.  The teabaggers are not fringe, they are mainstream, as is economic retard Ron Paul, as is the anti-semetic conspiracy theorist John Birch society.  Fuck, we're a few months away from the RNC inviting other previously banished movements.  Let's get the KKK back in!  Maybe the Know Nothings?  Hahahaha.

If you thought any part of the Bush years was sub par, you're in for a good time.  Cause next time a republican wins, It'll be worse.  It'll be more insane, filled with more conspiracy theory, anti-evidence, nut bags who think Glen Beck is the talking Anus of The All Mighty.

Gah, makes you envy the miscarried now doesn't it?

Sex Museum Photo Tour Part 1

My Trip to the Sexeum

So my birthday was this weekend, fulfilling the last piece of the February Triforce Weekend (Darwin/Lincoln Day, Ing Day, Valentine's Day). For this weekend my special Lady (links to her blog and craft shop, go support her dang it), took me into NYC to see the Museum of Sex, bum bum buuuuuuum.

Surprising it is NOT just them taking all the porno stores Giuliani chased away and redressing them as a 'museum" it was an actually entertaining and educational museum of the variety of sexy time stuff. So here we go with my blog picture tour recap.

So let's start the picture tour...

First things first

Pen Stations is weeeeeeeeeeeeiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrddddddddddddddddddddd

After looking for the subway (the subway system is a blight on a city that is otherwise a shinning example of civic engineering) we finally got unlost and made it to the museum.

If you can't read the front let me blow (hehe) that up for ya

Good, lord this place is going to be special…

Anyway, the entrance doubles as a gift shop. There's some good things, some odd things, and some things that must be destroyed with fire, more on that later. A lot of the stuff is classy and upscale, you know for sex toys, but you can (I'm told) get cheaper elsewhere. There are a lot of books there that I thought were cool or funny, but again nothing you really can't get on Amazon or the like…so the only stuff of note is the nightmare fuel, which I'll mercifully spare you…for now.

The museum is made up of 3-5 (depending how you count) galleries. From what I can gather two of those are sort of cycled out with new exhibits seasonally, while the rest are pernement artifact and art displays. The museum itself is really a mix between an art gallery and a historical museum.

The first gallery, which was a special, was a history of contraceptives (high focus on the condom). There's a lot of actual, legit, entertaining trivia here.

WHO KNOWS WHAT EVIL LIES IN THE DICKS OF MEN!?"]

Proto-Condom
literally a 'rubber sheeth'

There was a gallery of condom box art that was interesting.

I'm sure now Sarah Pallin will be listing me in her growing laundry list of "people who must be reminded that I have a downe syndrome baby"...cause you know anyone who brings up anything tangentially related incurs her bespectacled wrath.

Of course, Japan is well represented in the museum.

There was much to learn on the history of the condom.
Apparently, Eastern European Jews played a big part in the condom.

Good Lord he was the Dr. Strangelove of rubbers!

Comedy, Comics, and Condoms; the three gifts the Jews gave America.

Of course now knowing that, it makes THIS condom all the more WTF.

*Head asplodes*
I think the worst part for me, is that that could very well have come from the company the German's seized from Jewish businessmen.

Surprisingly, the nazi's on a whole are also well represented in the Museum
(mostly in the naturalist movement stuff)

Moving on...

You may ask, "Do they have anything on sex ed or condom awareness raising?"
Why yes...yes they do

A series of condom educational commercials using sex muppets.

30 seconds after this the frog is totally all over that scientist.

In another video of that series not-Groover also gets his Snuffleupagus chopped off (and then sown back on)

I'll spare you that image.

There are also some subtle political commentaries

"Text: Know Your Scumbags, One Prevents HIV"

Like I said: subtle

After seeing many displays reminding people of the horror of AIDS and how some groups are total cock bites for remaining silent or sabotaging health programs, you really need something lighter.  Hence, condom based art.

QUICK EVERYONE TO THE CONDOMZEPLIN!

I want one...

And now...THE most awesome historical lesson ever!

CONDOM WARS! This has to be made into a movie. Picture it, Women in corsets on Victorian building top fencing with weaponized over-sized dildos.

Well after this we move onto the STD and paraphernalia room.  I'll do a full post on that but I had to share this one poster that I thought was special.

A poster showing the supposed negative health effects of masturbation.

Ah so masturbation causes..lethargy, drooling and....being Peter Lorre?

Don't let this happen to, to yooooou!

Part two to come soon.

Evolution Primer 1: Random Selection

My arguement with a biological and chemical illiterate.  The idea of chaotic systems going into ordered results is hard to grasp for many so I'll post it here to try to give a layman explanation/primer.

Creationist says: Evolution is just a miss understanding of adaption.  To go fromt hat to things randomly happen is just stupid'
If you can't spell Misunderstanding you really shouldn't be criticizing others on their 'miss understanding'

I fail to see how understanding females plays into evolution on the whole.

Random SELECTION means that you keep every 6 on a die roll and ignore say every other one. That makes it possible to get say 666 dice rolls all saying 6. It's random chance with natural limits imposing on it gaining an order from chaos.

It's the same process from which we get complex ice crystals form disorganized randomly moving water molecules. They can form ANY possible combination...but only certain ones will remains, unstable combination are promptly re-broken as the chemical forms it's lowest stable state. Same way proteins fold themselves. The protein can in theory can take innumerable 3D shapes but only a few are stable enough to remain, so it shuffles till it gets into one that sticks.

What creatonist's understand that evolution does not explain how life started, just why it is diverse...However, it should be noted that random selection is more or less the same underlying paradigm that appears to be the process behind abiogenesis. In the right conditions you can get random chemical formations, but only a few will self propagate which form the building blocks of life which progressively clanked around until they formed what we know as life. Life is just as random as any other chemical possibility, the fact that it self propagates is what caused it to be 'selected'
 Creationist
lol thats your basis ? complex ice crystals form disorganized to an untrained eye of course , because of your flaws you draw basless conclusions about disorganized? when you can easily say organized using a method which only looks disorganized? are you kidding me ? are just pulling my leg here , like really =p you still kids thinking you know with your 3 pound brains , when its nothing more then evidence in your preception

No, to an eye that is trained in chemistry and organic chemistry. The foundations of chemistry are themselves based on an unguided random selection. Molecules make many bonds and formations as they react, but the ones that are the final products are the ones that are most stable (simplified explanation) the process is chaotic, the result is ordered both from observation and in many cases by definition (3 molecules go to 1 is a decrease in a system disorder)

Pat Robertson and Haiti

This is all I'm going to say about it:  There's now a mandatory waiting period between a tragedy/disaster/other emergency and vicious bullshit.  One week.  Give us one week to find and bury the dead, treat the injuries of the living, establish contact between families, replenish medical supplies.  Is one week too long?  Afraid you'll stop getting eyeballs and subscriber dollars if you shut up for one tiny week and let the population contain the damage?  Afraid you'd have to offer a modicum of respect for the victims and their families?

I just can't fathom.  Did this beat the turnaround time for 9/11 to be blamed on every rightwing boogeyman?  I think it might've.  For once, just once, I'd like to see an actual Christian response.  At least a Beatitude-driven response.  At least give me a "feed the hungry, clothe the naked" moment.
