Well, fear of the Acorn Assasians and Obama and his Czars starting Pogoms has had it's first casualty. A census worker named Bill Sparkman was killed. hung by his neck, gagged and with FED written on his chest. Police are warning us not to jump to conclusions that it could be an unrelated murder with no connection to Beck and Co's alarmism. I call bullshit. Yes the motive in the mruder may turn out to be different, but damn it if a pro-lifer was found dead, hung with 'Fundy' written on him, there would be NO question in the news that it was a left wing nut. As always we cow tail to the right, least we offend them by insinuiating they're crazy violent nuts. Well, they are crazy nuts, and some of them are sure to be violent. Shooting at the Holocaust museum, right wing nut. All the news went out of their way to insist he wasn't or down play it but he was. Fair and balanced news my ass. Evidence can be damning and not paying attention to that evidence for the sake of 'fairness' is neither fair nor balanced.
All the alarmism and fear and paranoia being spred by rich wealthy white males reminds me of my favorite line from The Great Gatsby, which I felt summed up the central conflict beautifully
...They were careless people,...—they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness, or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made. . . .

I may not be as eager to start saying this was related to Beck and Bachmann's idiocy, but I assure you it isn't out of any desire to cow tail to the right. I'm perfectly willing to still argue that what they are saying to people is dangerous and irresponsible, as well as complete bullshit, and that it will of course stoke the coals of right-wing idiotic anger, but in this particular case...I'm still waiting details. It's what makes me different from them.
I agree I think with what you're saying, but my stance is that it is not unreasonable to assume that unless another motive is discovered the ideas Beck and co proclaim were inflammatory. If anything I think this should be a wake up call to Beck, and if they had any decency they'd make a statement telling people NOT to act violently towards people like Sparkman.

I agree with both you on certain points. I understand the need to be reserved before we start pointing fingers at assumed responsible parties. But, Ing is correct when he says that if the situation was reversed, and a 'fundie' was hung with "public option" written on him, Glenn and Michelle's heads explode.
A problem (and a credit) with left is they generally seem unwilling to come down to the level of the right. We concern ourselves with fairness and truth. This whole census BS, and the manufactured ACORN controversy shows us that the opposite is true for the American right.
I hope, for the sake of humanity that Bachmann and Beck are having a lot of trouble sleeping lately. Sadly, I doubt they are.
Has anyone heard anything more about this story? It seems to have fallen off the radar. I would be interested to see what conclusions have been reached so far.
